How To Make TikTok Videos From Your Gaming Clips

One of the amazing things about the internet now is that you can make an income doing things that you love

Most streamers start streaming with the hope of making money and possibly making a living playing their video games

While this is possible when you are on Twitch alone, having more platforms that you get traffic from is a good idea

If you only have one place (Twitch) that you get viewers from, it would be devastating if something happened to that traffic

If you have more than one platform that gives you traffic, your income as a streamer is more dependable if something happens to one platform

The good news is that you already have the content to post on other platforms, you just need to edit your gaming clips

You can make TikTok videos from your gaming clips by using software like Outplayed to record smaller clips. Then edit those clips so there is only engaging content and add text and popups to keep attention. Then you can post those edited clips on TikTok to gain more traffic on your stream

You can do the same process for YouTube, but those videos take longer to edit because they are longer

TikTok is an excellent source of traffic because it has a large viewer base and half of the views from TikTok are on gaming content

You can also repurpose the edited TikToks for other platforms without issues

How do you get gaming clips?

You get gaming clips by using a screen recording software

We use Outplayed by Overwolf

It is easy to use and straightforward

It can automatically record all your gameplay while you are live, or you can have it capture smaller clips

The smaller clips are set to a length of your choice (60 seconds is commonly used) and set to record based on triggers

For example, you can get Outplayed to record 60 seconds around every time that you make a headshot

That way you don’t have to dig through all your recorded stream to find those headshots, they are automatically saved as a separate 60-second clip

There are many triggers to choose from

You can also set a trigger key on your keyboard

Let’s say you set “0” as your trigger key

Every time you push “0” while recording with Outplayed, it will save the 60-second clip

That way you can have separate clips for every event that you know that you want to use, and you have the option to save a separate clip if you record something amazing but not automatically saved

Once again, you don’t have to dig through a lot of videos to find that moment again

It is saved as a separate video

Why should streamers use gaming clips?

You don’t have to use your gaming clips to grow on TIkTok, but it is a good idea

If you are growing a TikTok without planning to send people to your live streams, then it doesn’t matter

But if you want to send people to your stream, think of some of your TikToks as commercials

You don’t need to make all your content gaming clips

It is a good idea to include other videos that show your personality

But the gaming clips are going to be the content that helps you find the people interested in watching streamers play your game

Your gaming clips are commercials for your stream

If people like the videos you post, they will naturally go to your profile and check out your stream

It is also important to make those TikToks true to your stream

If people get bait and switched, it is really bad for you

So just make your videos a true representation of your stream

Don’t make videos that are nothing like your live stream in hopes that people will like it better

No one likes to be tricked

What should you use to edit your gaming clips?

You can do your editing with many different editing software options

Our favorite is Filmora because it is easy to use but has a ton of features

So it is great for both beginner and the experienced editors

I also liked it because we can pay for a lifetime membership

It is cheaper in the long run and I hate monthly subscriptions

But there are more options!

If you want to read about some of those options, check out my post on 9 different editing software options for streamers

What do I do to my gaming clips to make them look good on TikTok?

There isn’t a lot you need to do to make gaming clips look good on TIkTok, but there are some strong suggestions

The first thing you need to do is change your horizontal video to a vertical video

It matches TikTok better and gives your video a better chance at success

If you don’t know how to do that, read about it here

The second thing that you should do is show your face

TikTok values personality and realism

It is possible to have success when you are faceless, but it is harder

People on TikTok want to connect with other people

So showing who you are and your personality will help more people connect to you and become fans

The last thing you need to do is assume that people are scrolling their For You Page with the sound off

Not everyone watches videos on mute, but a lot of people do

Using captions and pop-ups can help your videos get more views

Viewers that may have liked your video may keep swiping if they have their sound off and there are no captions

So caption what is important and make your videos very visual

The people with their sound off will appreciate it and the people with the sound on won’t mind at all

I look at TikTok with the sound on and I still prefer the captions and visuals

So it is a good idea to keep that in mind when editing your gaming clips
