There are two most popular video editing software options:
- Filmora
- Adobe Premiere Pro
Both are excellent choices
To read more about Filmora, check out my article on that
Premiere Pro was created by Adobe, which is a very well-known company in the tech world
It is a massive program that can do whatever you want it to do to your videos
It has become the industry standard for editing software
The Adobe video editor is a good choice for beginners, but not the best. If you are completely new to editing, the complicated interface can be intimidating. If you are willing to pay for it and struggle through the beginning learning phases, you will never have to switch to a better software
While that seems great, that struggle as a beginner can be hard to get past
If you are completely new to computers and editing, Premiere Pro may not be the best choice without a teacher
What is Adobe Video Editor?
The Adobe video editor is called Premiere Pro
It is one of the best editing software options out there and is commonly used by professional editors
It is a paid program, but you can get 7 days free as a trial
You can choose to pay monthly or yearly
For up-to-date prices, visit their website
Since Premiere Pro is a pricier option, they also give a big update every year and they have great customer support
Even though it is a more complex editor right now, they are making steps to make it easier to learn for beginners
Premiere Pro has many features that will make editing your videos easier and smoother
What are the positives of Adobe video editor?
There are some great features in the Adobe video editor
The import and export experiences are more visual and automatic than many editors
You get 100 GB of online storage
A beautiful captioning workflow that makes it easy to add, edit, and format captions. They are working on making an automatic captions option in the future
If you are creating TikToks or YouTube shorts, the auto reframe will make your editing so much easier
Audio reframe will adjust what is showing in the vertical view automatically so you don’t have to adjust it manually
There are 47 default transitions, but you can add more with plugins
Collaboration is a great feature if you use more than one computer or have more than one editor
If you want to make something different for a platform like Facebook, the 360-degree VR mode can make your content into an anaglyphic form
This means it can be viewed in 3D or track the movement of the phone so the viewer feels like they are actually looking around when they move their phone
The color wheel allows you to adjust the colors in the video
Overall, there are a lot of amazing features in Adobe Premiere Pro that allows you to edit your video into anything you can think of
What are the negatives?
One of the major negatives of Adobe Premiere pro is that it is a monthly subscription
You will be paying monthly or yearly for it
I would have preferred to have a lifetime payment option
You also need an excellent computer to effectively run the software
All those features need great computer specs and it also uses a lot of RAM
That is basically the computer’s short-term memory
It needs to be able to store and open things very quickly
Premiere Pro is a professional software
It is complex and not the best option for a new editor
It can be very overwhelming
And if a beginner is too overwhelmed, along with paying the high monthly price, the risk of quitting increases a lot
As mentioned before, there is at least one major update every year
While that is great in some ways, that also means that you expect to have to relearn some features at least once a year
If you are just trying to get your work done, that can be very frustrating
I think of it like our favorite grocery store rearranging
It isn’t bad that it is rearranged
The new setup will probably be better
But it is still frustrating when you just want to get your shopping done and everything is different
It is beginner friendly?
No, Premiere Pro is not super beginner friendly
If you have a lot of general computer experience, you may be able to limp through
But Premiere Pro was made for professional editors
It is complex and overwhelming
It requires a very strong computer with amazing specs, which not every beginner can afford to buy
It has a monthly cost that adds up
Beginners usually have a pretty small budget
While it does have a lot of automatic features, Premiere Pro has so many features that finding the right thing can be difficult
Unlike the free or super cheap programs, Premiere Pro does have a lot of support and tools to help you learn
Will I grow out of it fast?
If you do decide to learn with Premiere Pro, you will never need a different editor
As I have said a few times, this is a professional editing software
While there are editors like Filmora that are comparable, there isn’t an obvious upgrade that you can grow into
So as of right now, you will not outgrow Adobe Premiere Pro
It is constantly getting new and improved features
And it is one of the best software choices out there
So if you are worried about spending all this time and effort to learn Premiere Pro just to have to learn a different software later…
You don’t have to worry about that
You can learn to do whatever you want with this software
Once you learn and understand all the features and everything you can do with Premiere Pro, you can create any kind of video that your imagination can think of
