How To Use TikTok To Consistently Grow Your Twitch Stream

TikTok is a very popular platform right now (2022)

It even passed YouTube for total watch time in 2020!

And it has amazing organic potential

That means that you can get a lot of traffic without paying for it

You use TikTok to grow your Twitch stream by posting clips of your recorded streams and direct viewers to your Twitch Channel. You have to have 1k followers on TikTok to redirect traffic to Twitch and go live on TikTok. You can get those followers fast by posting a lot consistently

You are going to hear many different opinions on how to get your first 1k followers on TikTok because there are many ways to do it

I will share how I did it and you can choose to try it or do something else

Once you reach those first 1k followers, you can add a link to your bio and direct traffic to your Twitch stream!

Can TikTok bring more traffic to your Twitch stream?

TikTok is a very unique social media community

And it has been amazing for businesses that choose to use it

If you are a Twitch affiliate, you are a business

The important part with TikTok is that you need to be authentic

Don’t bait and switch

That means the videos that you post on TikTok to get traffic to your stream need to be aligned

Have you ever watched a movie commercial and got really excited to see the movie?

Then watched the movie and it was very disappointing?

Word spreads fast and people on TikTok aren’t afraid to tell others about your videos if you are trying to trick people

The solution is simple

Have your “commercials” (TikToks) correctly represent your stream

The right people will like what you offer and become fans

And you keep a clean name

For example, if you make a bunch of TikToks that are super funny and rarely crack a joke on your stream, you’ll start to get a bad name on TikTok

But if you create fun videos that represent your stream well, you can grow your traffic a lot with TikTok

The basics of TikTok for directing traffic

The first thing you need to know about TikTok is that it is a snowball platform

The more you post consistently, the faster you will grow

The longer you post often, the more return on each video you will get

When I was posting 5 videos a day, I was growing but it was slow

When I posted less, my growth pretty much stopped

But when I was posting 8-10 videos a day, my growth skyrocketed!

Not all your videos have to be extensive

You can do trending sounds talking about gaming too

Just keep trying things out so you can post enough to get a good growth momentum

Avoid using large or general hashtags like #FYP

Those do not help you find the right people and can confuse TikTok

TikTok is choosing who to show your videos to, so getting specific is important

Try to avoid using more than two hashtags with over a million views

Lastly, you need to ask people to go to your stream

People will automatically go to your link, but you’ll get way more traffic if you tell people when you stream live and ask them to join you

If you don’t have a link in your bio yet, then ask people to follow you

A CTA (Call to action) is so important and it can be anything you want your viewers to do

Why can’t I add a website link in my TikTok Bio?

In January of 2022, TikTok made it so everyone needed 1000 followers to go live and put a link in their bio

If you have tried to grow on any other platform, that number can seem overwhelming

But it is not super difficult to get there if you are willing to put some work in for a few months

I went from 200 followers to 1200 followers in 1.5 months

But my posting schedule was intense!

To reach my first 1k, I:

  • Posted 10 videos a day Monday-Friday
  • I used specific hashtags that matched my video
  • Interacted with other people in my niche
  • Commented for 10 minutes a day

TikTok is a community platform

People often go check out your videos if you comment on their posts a lot

Get noticed by other people in your niche!

They aren’t your competition

They are a way to break into your niche while enjoying and supporting videos that you like

It is important to comment a lot on the same creators, not just once a many different ones

If your name comes up over and over, they will get curious

If you are posting the same things that they enjoy, you may even get a follow back

Is a business or personal account better?

When you first create a TikTok account, you will need to choose a business or personal account

I prefer personal accounts because you have more music options

But if you ever want to use your videos to make money, be careful with copyright laws

Many social media platforms get in trouble because people are using music that is copyrighted in their videos

If you want to be cautious, you can choose a business account to make sure you don’t use copyrighted music

They won’t be available to you!

There are theories that business accounts get fewer views though

Just like every platform, TikTok prefers when people to pay for views

At the end of the day, the one you choose is your personal preference

If you are just using TikTok to redirect traffic to Twitch, I recommend personal accounts

If you are nervous about copyright laws, look at the business account

You aren’t married to either when you choose

You can always switch to test out the other account type

The important part is that you just get started
