Editing is a process of making your videos better for non-live viewing
There are many options that you can choose from.
Anything from paid to free options
Most streamers will use software like Filmora or Premiere Pro because they are fast and seamless to use. They are paid but they are worth the money because of how much time you save. But if spending more time is okay with you if you don’t have to pay, then free options like Davinci Resolve works
Being a Twitch streamer is a form of business, and there are unlimited options for you as a business owner
Each streamer needs to choose what works best for their situation and realize that their needs might change
The two major factors for editing software are:
- Cost
- Usability
Most of the time, you will not get amazing usability at no cost
But some of the best software is inexpensive
So if you are willing to spend a little money, you will get software that will last you forever
Can Twitch videos be edited?
Most of the time, you will have all the content you need from recorded streams
If you are promoting your stream, content that you created is the best way to get new fans
You can’t do much editing directly on Twitch
Everything is limited there
If you don’t need or want a lot, then you might be able to edit directly on Twitch, but it isn’t preferred
If you choose to use editing software, you can download your videos from the software that you used to go live on Twitch
We use Outplayed to record videos
This can be done whether you are streaming or not
If you go into your recording software, you can view your video collection
Once you decide what video you want to use, click the three dots and select download
You might have clips that viewers clipped for you on Twitch, but usually, you’ll get videos from your recording software
Now that you have the video, you can edit easily with editing software (like Filmora)
What do gamers use to edit their videos?
Once you have a video downloaded, now it is time to edit it so you can post it on the platform of your choice
Most streamers post on YouTube and TikTok right now
Before you start editing, decide where you will post it
This is important because YouTube Shorts and TikTok require you to change your video dimensions
Then it is time to use editing software to create your video!
But which one do streamers use?
It depends on their needs
Premiere Pro and Filmora are very popular among streamers
We use Filmora and we love it
We paid the lifetime fee and it has been worth every penny
But if you are tight on money, there are free options like Canva and Davinci Resolve
Just keep in mind that useability goes down a lot with the free software
Editing will feel more frustrating and difficult with those programs
So if you are really struggling, try changing your software or paying for one
Your experience with editing will change a lot with the right tools!
If you want some more editing software options and to see their pros and cons, check out my article on ways streamers can edit their videos
Which app is best for editing gaming videos?
If you are not editing on your computer, then you need a video editing app that works well
It is most preferred to edit on the computer, but there are options for android and apple
For apple:
- iMovie
- LumaFusion
- Kinemaster
- FilmoraGo
- Apple clips
- Filmmaker Pro
- InShot
For Andriod:
- KineMaster
- FilmoraGo
- InShot
- ActionDirector
Some of these are easier than others
If you are in a crunch and need to edit on your phone, these will get the job done
But they are not the most effective options out there
Some of them are free and others are paid
So just test them out and see what works best for you and your device!
How do I edit videos like a pro?
Now that you have your video and you have your editing software, now it is finally time to edit!
There are many ways to edit, but creating a system that works for you is important
To see my system breakdown, read this article
Basically, you need to have a goal for the video
Make sure that your clips align with that goal
For example, if you want to make a funny video, try not to choose serious action shots
You can change the mood with narration and text on the screen
But let’s start with something simple!
Once you have your goals and clips ready, create a first draft
This is just putting the clips in order in your editor
Then start cutting away what you don’t want in the final video
Don’t get too hung up on details here
Just take out the big stuff
Once you have that done, then you can watch through and trim the details
Once you have the main video fully edited, then it is time to start layering!
Layers are the extra things you can add on top or behind your main video
For example, you can add a music layer behind your video
People will be able to hear the sound but they can see anything because your main video is on top
Then you can add text on top of your main video
Most people appreciate having captions on the video
Nothing is more frustrating than trying to understand what is being said and failing
Add layers and have fun, but don’t overdo it
Once you have all the layers added, watch through one more time to make sure the timing is right and nothing slipped past the cutting stages
If everything looks good, download the edited video and post it on the platform of your choice!
The first couple of times may feel tedious and hard
But it does get a lot easier with practice!
